Initial consultation
I offer a free initial phone call or zoom meeting to discuss your concerns, reasons for referral, answer any questions you may have and ensure that we can determine the most appropriate form of input for your child/family.
How long does it last?
Play Therapy sessions last for 45 min - 1hr. Length of input varies, depending on the level of need and how the child accesses sessions. Each referral is unique. The minimum number of recommended sessions is 15 for a short term piece of work and 25+ for a longer piece of work. I ensure a review with parent/carer every six sessions to reflect upon progress and determine next steps.
Endings are a very important part of the therapeutic process and careful consideration is taken to decide upon the ending process for each child. Session endings usually span across 3-4 sessions to enable the child to experience a healthy ending.
Where will it happen?
I see clients within either a private clinic space or if appropriate, the primary school. This is something we can discuss during initial consultation
(In any circumstance I adhere to current Covid guidelines in my practice.)
The sessions take place at the same time and day each week - consistency is a very important part of developing the therapeutic trust.
Will it be confidential?
Confidentiality is crucial to the process and ensures a healthy sense of trust between myself, the families I work with and the child in sessions.
With parent/carers permission and when necessary, I may share reports and information with other services and professionals.
If I have any cause for concern, I adhere to child protection policies and where disclosures are made, will share information as required.
